
Public Seminar on Developing Sustainable Business: Learning from Our Clients

Developing Sustainable Business (DSB) Program has been a program of Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan – host of LEAD Indonesia programs – since 2006. Through partnership with AtKisson Groups International, YPB has been applying AtKisson Sustainability Accelerator Tools (ASAT’s) to the project. In the last three years, DSB program has been working with 7 (seven) leading companies in Indonesia: PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (represent mining company), PT Indonesia Power (represent energy sector), PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk, PT Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper (represent plantation company), Losari Spa Retreat & Coffee Plantation (represent services sector), PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (represent banking industry & state-own company), and PT Mardohar Catur Tunggal Gaya (represent manufacture industry). With the full support from LEAD International and British Embassy the program has assisted our clients in formulating their path towards sustainability.

International Training Program in Sweden-an invitation by SIDA

 YPB represented by Darwina Widjajanti (Executive Director) has been invited by The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) to join advanced International Training Programmes (ITP) of strategic importance to the social, economic, and environmental development in the country. Other Indonesia representatives were from Ministry of Environment and Teachers Institute, Sampoerna Foundation. The International Training in Sweden conducted from September 14 to October 3, 2009, attended by 25 selected participants from Africa (Lesotho, Tanzania, Namibia) and Asia (Laos, Bangladesh, Mongolia and Indonesia).

An orchestra for Ecofish : A collaboration with Twilite YOUTH Orchestra

An innovation of promoting Ecofish project of Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan / LEAD Indonesia was made in collaboration with Twilite YOUTH Orchestra (TYO). Eco Fish project supported by Darwin Initiative through LEAD International has been completed in 2008. The fishermen groups in Buleleng District, Bali, have been certified by Marine Aquarium Council (MAC), as the group members have shifted cyanide use to collect ornamental fish into environmentally safe standard. Through 3-year activities the Eco Fish project has certified more than 200 ornamental fish fishermen, developed 3 eco fish fishermen group, and 3 community council, with a local cooperative that received initial funds to assist the fishermen group. According to the survey conducted by Reef Check and MAC, the marine habitat in the project site shows recovery since the cyanide use decreased, as the biodiversity and the number of ornamental fish increased. Besides, the local fishermen found some species that have been disappearing for some years.

Indonesian LEAD Fellows Cohort 14th Inaugurated: With Roadmap towards Food Sovereignty

 The participants of Indonesian LEAD Associate Training Cohort 14th consists of Ario Tranggono, Bayuni Shantiko, Farah Sofa, Hermas E. Prabowo, J. Indro Surono, Mujiati, Nana Agustina Dhian Ekawati, Nancy Kiay, Puji Sumedi Hanggarawati, Said Abdullah, and Tini Sastra finally were inaugurated as LEAD Fellows at 14th of August 2009. They had developed and presented a team work document, a roadmap titled "From Food Security towards Food Sovereignty", in a workshop attended by a number of Indonesian experts on food and climate change, on August 12, 2009, at Grand Kemang Hotel in Jakarta. Three other participants of cohort 14, Asikin Chalifah, Nusya Kuswantin and Yusman Syaukat, were inaugurated as LEAD Associates.

YPB's Developing Sustainable Business Program has been completed in partnership with various companies (from pulp and paper, energy, mining, bank, resort). All of our partners have completed its sustainable business strategy for long term benefits. The latest partnership was an engagement in July - August 2009 with PT Mardohar Catur Tunggal Gaya (MCTG) - a medium scale garment/apparel company located in Jakarta. Team of MCTG consists of 10 selected employees and has successfully developed indicators, systems, innovations and strategies towards company's journey to sustainability through series of workshops with the assistance of YPB team.
